Silence Hours
"Silence is not an absence but a presence."
— Anne D. LeClaireThese are not rules. They are an invitation into a way of being.
Meet the Zendo leader on your first day — they will orient you and assign your seat.
Be on time for Zazen — doors close at the scheduled hour, no exceptions.
Open and close doors quietly — every action is an act of mindfulness.
Participate wholeheartedly in Samu — community work is your practice, not a burden.
Dress appropriately — shoulders and knees covered. This is a Zen space.
Abstain from all intoxicants — the premises are a no-smoking, no-alcohol zone.
Respect personal space — in this community, one's freedom ends where another's begins.
Remain aware — be present with your breath, thoughts, feelings, and actions at all times.
Stay committed — dedicate yourself to your practice, your sangha, and your growth.
Practice compassion — toward yourself and every living being at Satori Valley.
Embrace silence — both of speech and of mind. Let it deepen your practice.
Arrive 5 minutes early. The Zendo closes at the scheduled time. Enter with clean feet.
"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's mind there are few."
